Field Study #5

Field Notes:

This was my 5th visit I've made to my field study location. I came here after swim practice, and in this picture, you can see that it is just starting to get dark out. I came to my location at 5:22 PM. This was definitely my coldest visit, and the temperature was 37 degrees Fahrenheit. You can see the small bit of snow that fell this weekend in this picture. It was a little windy when I came out, but not really. The length of the day today was 9 hours and 47 minutes. One change I noticed during my field study was that all of the leaves have fallen from the trees, and the only ones left were the ones on the ground. I also noticed the small bit of snow that had fallen, and the overall wet look that the woods had today. Sound-wise, the woods were a lot quieter without the wind rustling through the leaves, and having the leaves crunch on the path under my feet. It was a very quiet visit, except for the visit of a few birds in the trees near me. The look of the woods reminded me that fall is pretty much done, and now winter is coming!

Some things I noticed on my visit today:

One change I noticed was a fence was put up between the woods and the condos behind it. This must have been put up in the last week, because it wasn't there my last visit. I noticed that it divides one of the streams, and I wonder how this divider will affect that particular ecosystem.

 

Another thing I noticed was a small plant, and while all the other trees were bare, this tree/plant still had vibrant green leaves on it. It was very spectacular to see in the extremely cold weather!

This wasn't exactly a change, but I just noticed how the bottom of this small creek was completely covered in leaves, and I thought it was cool how the water came over top of it instead of the leaves floating:
